What is a wheeled commode

A wheeled commode chair is a very useful toileting aid for anyone who may find it difficult to get themselves to the toilet on time for whatever reason. Wheeled commodes are by definition mobile units and therefore can be situated in a convenient place that can be reached with ease as and when needed. They are convenient and provide a place for the user to relieve themselves thus preventing accidents and embarrassment.

Mobile commodes

As wheeled commode chairs are not restricted by location they can be placed near to hand in the room most used. Many wheeled commode chairs are also suited to use in a shower room or wet room and are also known as shower commodes.

A wheeled commode comes with a bowl that can be easily removed for cleaning. However there are variations without bowls which are designed to be used over a conventional toilet however these are not strictly commodes. The main reason that these are sometimes preferred is that the seats are typically higher off the ground and therefore easier for some to use.

The models that are designed for use in the shower room tend to have a more functional look and are less suited to use in other rooms due to their appearance. One feature that is a must for all wheeled mobile commodes is locking castors. These locks should be on each wheel and are used to secure the chair so it remains in place providing the user with a steady and stationary base.
