More about aluminium wheelchairs

As with all lightweight wheelchairs the frames and some other components are fabricated using aluminium to help reduce the overall weight. Aluminium is suitable for use in most wheelchairs however it is not as strong as the alternative material steel which will create a stronger wheelchair and will therefore be more suitable for heavier users.

What to look for in an aluminium wheelchair

So when looking for a suitable aluminium wheelchair, user weight is perhaps the biggest consideration. Ideally you want to look for a wheelchair that is designed to carry approximately 20% or so more than the users actual weight. This approach builds in a safety margin and means that the aluminium wheelchair can be used well within its safe working load.
